A unique inventory management system that simplifies ordering and inventory control in today’s busy veterinary practice.

The Provet e-Order interface enables users of Veterinary Practice Management software to communicate orders, invoices and product/pricing updates electronically and allows advanced streamlining of practice stock management and product pricing while helping to reduce manual input while reducing stock issues through transcription error.

Why Provet e-Order for Inventory Control?

The basic premise of most computerised inventory management systems is that the computer ‘knows’ what the stock on-hand is for a product at any point in time. This information is then used in conjunction with stocking levels to produce re-order reports at the press of a button. In a perfect world this solution is the best outcome but in today’s busy Veterinary Practice tracking stock movements is not a simple task, and due to pressures and complexity is seldom done well.

Some veterinary practice management systems attempt to compensate for this difficulty in tracking stock movements by providing facilities to specify ‘preset’ product usage quantities in consult procedures. This approach is costly in terms of administration and is still not the complete solution as additional factors such as body weight, size etc that contribute to usage rates result in inaccurate stock on-hand records and add to the complexity of administering such a system. There is the risk of over or under-stocking.

Provet e-Order is designed with the way veterinary practices work in mind, and recognizes that a combination of computerised and ‘manual’ processes is required to implement an effective inventory control system in today’s busy practice environment.

The Provet e-Order inventory management system is based on the concept of tracking stock at the central dispensary/pharmacy level in shipping units, rather than micro managing at the consult-room level to the exact milligram or number of gloves used. Consult-room stock is considered work-in-progress. The objective is to manage the central dispensary stock to reduce or eliminate stock outs without over-stocking.

Re-ordering is a simple process of perusing the shelves to identify stock that has fallen below a pre-determined level, scanning the associated barcode with a portable scanner and entering the quantity to be ordered. The portable scanner is then attached to the e-Order workstation and the order information uploaded.
An important step of the implementation procedure is assisting your clinic to determine stocking levels for each product, using existing purchasing history from our internal Provet System.
