Temporary Freight Surcharge: Frequently Asked Questions

Why is Covetrus introducing a Temporary Freight Surcharge?

Over the past 12-18 months, freight, fuel and transportation costs across Australia and New Zealand have increased significantly. In some delivery routes, particularly regional and remote areas, freight charges from transport providers have increased by as much as 200-300%.

During this period, Covetrus has absorbed the vast majority of these increases to minimise the impact on veterinary practices. As these costs have continued to rise, we have made the decision to introduce a small temporary surcharge to help recover a portion of the additional freight expense while maintaining the reliable delivery service our customers rely on.

When will the surcharge take effect?
The Temporary Freight Surcharge will apply to orders placed from 26 October 2026.

How much is the surcharge?
A Temporary Freight Surcharge of $3.50 will apply to each order.  The surcharge will appear as a separate line item on your invoice.

Why has Covetrus introduced a surcharge instead of increasing product prices?
We believe separating freight-related costs from product pricing is the most transparent approach. This allows product prices to remain unchanged while clearly identifying the additional cost associated with freight and transportation.

Is Covetrus recovering all of its increased freight costs through this surcharge?
No. The surcharge recovers only a portion of the increased freight and transportation costs that Covetrus is experiencing. We continue to absorb a significant share of these additional costs on behalf of our customers.

Will this affect my delivery service?
No. The surcharge is intended to help us maintain the dependable delivery service and network coverage that practices expect from Covetrus.

Is this surcharge permanent?
No. This is a temporary measure that will be reviewed regularly as freight and transportation costs evolve. It has been introduced while we develop a new freight model that will provide clinics with greater flexibility, choice and control over delivery options and associated costs. We will communicate any future changes as they occur.

What is Covetrus doing for the future?
Alongside this temporary surcharge, we are developing a new freight model designed to provide clinics with greater flexibility, choice and control over delivery options and associated costs. We will share more information as these enhancements become available.
